Groups are gatherings of roughly 7-20 people who meet together on a regular basis. They are drawn together by common interests, a specific topic or activity or a particular demographic. In a typical Group you’ll meet people who live near you, are in the same stage of life as you or have similar interests. Whether you are reading through a Bible Study together, discussing and wrestling through the weekly talks, serving in some sort of mission project or sharing a common interest, our Groups are places where community is built and lives are changed.
Summer Connect Events season kicks off May 28th and runs all summer.
Because of the hustle & bustle of the summer season, most Groups do not meet weekly. However, we do offer a pretty big selection of one-time events where people can connect without making a long-term commitment. These events are mostly interest based, but are sometimes targeted towards a specific gender or age demographic.
We offer a variety of Group types. Below is a (not-so-exhaustive) list that will hopefully satisfy your pallette.
- Activity Group: Pretty self-explanatory. Groups like: Flag Football, Cooking 101, or Guy’s Poker Night.
- Message-Based Group: These Groups represent the majority of our Groups at Great Lakes Church. The focus is discussing the talk from the previous week.
- Bible Study Group: A discussion based on a book or chapter of the Bible.
- Mission Group: Meets at a home or specific location to serve a community organization (i.e. Women & Children’s Horizons, Frank Neighborhood Project, etc.)
- Crash Course: One-time or short-term classes geared toward popular topics such as theology, marriage, parenting, or finances.
Our Groups season launches twice a year (March and October). In the weeks prior to our Groups launch, you can sign up to be a part of a Group on our GROUPS PAGE. We typically release both a print and online catalog to make it easy for you to choose a Group and sign up!
As for Connect Events, even though these happen throughout the year, the bulk of them happen during the summer months. We release both a print and online catalog full of them prior to launch and you can choose which events you’d like to attend.
